Federica Mogherini, European Union foreign policy chief, expressed her strong disbelief in Donald Trump and his recent policies. Mogherini believes that “unpredictability” has turned the United States into an undependable country which is making a chaos in the world issues.
Talking in a State of the Union conference in Florence, Mogherini also asserted that being unpredictable may sometimes work as a plaything in political arena, but may also lead to horror and take long time to get the lost trust back:
Sometimes you can play with unpredictability and predictability that can surprise… but sometimes you can also scare. And sometimes it’s too late to fix it. The European way is not that of playing.
Mogherini also added that the EU is in different terms with US and NATO about the resolutions for global issues. She said, “We know very well that there is not one single security threat in our world that can only be faced with military means.”
She was referring to The US missile strikes against Syrian airbase last month which was criticized by officials in the EU then. They said their way for resolving the disputes is seeking for more flexible approaches.
EU foreign policy chief also talked about the way she was welcomed in India, China and Russia as an EU authority. She said the countries encouraged a more powerful EU to replace for the untrustworthy policies of the US as a superpower:
People want to work with European Union, not because they always like us… But in this geopolitical dynamic, being predictable, reliable and strong is an added value we should use.
She also added that while the US is losing its leadership of the world, The EU, supported by independent powers in the world, can take the place.
This is While the EU itself is facing significant issues since Brexit when the UK announced separation. Besides, in French presidential election, there were talks about France divorce from EU calling it “Frexit”. It seems that the wave of disintegration in the EU will not stop at France; other countries may join the cause.
