Shocking statistics on the increase in number and situation of Palestinian prisoners

Important information about Palestinian prisoners have been released in the media showing the dire situation of Palestinian prisoners in the prisons of the Zionist regime and the number of both Palestinians and non-Palestinian prisoners in those prisons.

According to the report, 7000 Palestinians are imprisoned inside these prisons, 330 of them are residents of the Gaza Strip, 680 living in Jerusalem, 1948 living in the occupied Palestinian territory, 6000 living in the West Bank, 34 prisoners are from different Arab countries and two of the detainees are from the Golan heights.

According to the report, among the prisoners, 600 prisoners haven’t been charged yet and are temporarily detained, 2000 people are in detention and interrogation centers, 4430 prisoners have been put on trial and 500 prisoners have been convicted of long prison terms.

Furthermore, 58 Palestinian females are imprisoned in Israeli prisons, 15 of them are young girls, 2 are currently under detention, 13 are injured and 30 people have been sentenced to various prison terms.

320 of the prisoners are children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 3 of them are under detention, 270 children were placed on trial and their sentences have been issued and 47 of them are still awaiting trial.

Ever since 1967, The number of martyrs of the movement of Palestinian prisoners reached to 210 martyrs, 72 of them have been tortured and 57 of the prisoners were martyred as a result of medical malpractice, 74 prisoners have been martyred right after having been arrested and 7 prisoners were shot to death in prison.

1200 of the prisoners are patients, 34 of them are disabled, 21 are diagnosed with cancer, two of them suffer from hepatitis, 17 of them suffer from cardiac problems, 19 of the prisoners are permanently treated and hospitalized in Ramleh hospital.

The oldest Palestinian prisoners, including captives having been in prison for more than 20 years, are as followed: 9 prisoners who have been in captivity for more than 30 years out of whom Karim Younes is the oldest, 21 prisoners spending more than 25 years in captivity and 29 prisoners who had been arrested before the Oslo agreement in 1994 (the Zionist regime opposed their freedom within the framework of the fourth group of Palestinian prisoners as a condition for reviving the procedure of the peace talks).

13 of the prisoners held in captivity are elected representative of the Palestinian people, four of them are under temporary arrest, two of them are sentenced to long prison terms and 6 are imprisoned without trial in detention and interrogation centers.
