Tit for Tat; EU Restricts the American Citizens from Entering the US without a Visa

Either as a fear from terrorist acts, or as an excuse for boosting racist behaviors, the western countries have tried to modify their immigration policies to limit and control the population entering their countries. From Australia to Germany and Canada, restrictions have been made with various announced reasons. The main and most outstanding touch, however, was given by the American president, Donald Trump, when he signed to have the citizens of seven Muslim countries banned from entering the country. This final decision was reacted harshly by people from around the world and mainly American citizens. Although it was finally lifted by a judge in America, its tense social and political outcomes was and will never be forgotten.

The latest update on the issue is the EU’s decision on limiting the entry of US citizens to EU countries without a visa. According to the independent , “The vote urges the revocation of the scheme within two months, meaning Americans will have to apply for extra documents for 12 months after the European Commission implements a “delegated act” to bring the change into effect.” The Thursday vote is an act by the European lawmakers to make for the American act of restricting the citizens of 5 European countries from Entering the US without a visa.

According to the law passed on Thursday, the commission is obliged to take effective steps to do the needed legal actions for revoking the Reciprocity agreement between the US and EU. Euro news also reports, “Nearly three years ago in April 2014, the European Commission learned five countries, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Japan and the United States, applied visa restrictions on EU travelers despite having previously adopted rules on visa reciprocity”. Now the reports confirm that the other four countries have implemented the needed legal modifications, but the United States is still on the same line as before.

Apart from the reasons for the legal measures that the EU commission is obliged to do, the recent movements about the immigration or travel policies can be analyzed in two ways. It is indicative of the fact that the western world is stuck in its own trap of nurturing and supporting terrorists. Besides, this condition is made for them to be able to justify their inhumane and racist acts.
