“It will be nice if Indian soldiers could be there to support U.S. forces in places like Afghanistan,” Kumar said, The Hindu reported.
“It is my feeling that the Donald Trump administration wants India to partner counter terror operations in Afghanistan.”
New Delhi has provided over $2 billion in economic assistance to Afghanistan in the last 15 years, but has been more measured in providing military aid to avoid backlash from its rival Pakistan.
India has been training hundreds of Afghan officers annually and has provided four Mi-25 attack helicopters to Afghan forces.
Kumar, a Chicago-based businessman of Indian origin, was tasked by the Trump aides with reaching out to Asian-Americans during his race for U.S. presidency.
