The Head of Qatar’s Tourism Authority, Isa bin Mohammad al-Muhannadi, expressed hope that Saudi Arabia would review its decision to increase Visa fees to Saudi Arabia, saying: “we expect the wise leadership in Saudi Arabia to prevent the execution of this decision and its negative repercussions on our two countries’ cultural and touristic relations.”
Al-Muhannadi also affirmed on the sidelines of the “Shop Qatar” festival, that Qatar reserves its right to act in kind saying: “I have brought the matter up with the Saudi Hajj minister, and his eminence promised to pursue the problem with all possible means. He also commended the good bilateral relations enjoyed by the two countries: “It is our duty that we not allow this friendly atmosphere to be perturbed by random actions, especially since Qatar is planning on hosting the 2022 World Cup; Saudi Arabia’s latest step will force Qatar to reply in kind out of diplomatic necessity, whereupon Visa fees for Saudi nationals wishing to come see the matches will increase.”
The Saudi cabinet had earlier decided to increase Visa fees to the kingdom, including Umra, and temporary residency permits, as part of its austerity measures.
