It is said that the reason behind the arrest of Mohammad bin Zayed’s former consultants is that he stands in opposition to some of the regime’s policies, especially those limiting freedoms, as he had recently tweeted: “If only we in the Emirates had things such as forgiveness, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of assembly, and political freedoms, just as we have freedom of belief, freedom of trade, personal freedom and social freedom.”
In the same context, the Emirates Media and Studies Center (EMASC) considered Abdulkhaliq Abdallah’s arrest to be part of a crackdown by the Emirates on freedom of speech.
The center also released a statement against Abdallah’s arrest; however, some sources close to UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, that Abdulkhaliq Abdallah’s arrest is considered to be a new step in the plan laid out by both Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Saudi intelligence after news of the fake coup against him was spread.
By doing this, Mohammad bin Zayed aims to eliminate his opponents, as well as political officials, reducing the authorities of the UAE’s rulers, thus consolidating power.
Abdulkhaliq Abdallah’s statements on Twitter prove his stern opposition to some of Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed’s policies.
