Dr. Velayati responses to anti-Iranian remarks made by Turkish officials

Ali Akbar Velayati, head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council, asserted at a press conference on the sidelines of his meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker Hadiya Abbas: “we had a good and constructive meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker today. We discussed different topics including Syrian crisis, regional and international issues.”

Head of the Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council said stressing Iran is a strategic ally of Syria: “Global arrogance has conducted a lot of measures to split Syria. One of them is supporting terrorists who fight against the legitimate government of Syria. But Iran and Syria’s allies prevented the actions and helped the country.”

“Recently we see that Russian government has joined this axis and supports the legitimate government and people of Syria, because it sensed the danger of terrorism,” he added.

“All regional and trans-regional reached the conclusion that the Syrian government has passed a turning point of its battles, which is the victory in Aleppo. Terrorist sponsors know this fact and understood that they cannot do anything about it and started blaming others in the international scene, like the Munich Conference,” Velayati said.

“Everyone knows that countries supporting terrorism in the region are the United States, Saudi Arabia and their allies. And countries standing against them are Iran and states supporting peace and friendship. For this reason, they talk baseless,” said head of the Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council referring that some reactionary regional states intend to show Iran as a factor of regional insecurity.

“Iran-Syria strategic ties will continue until full victory which preserves the integrity of the country and its legitimate government along with the return of Syrian refugees,” he added.

“I must say Saudi official made baseless remarks. We have been accustomed to hearing irrational words and do not pay attention to them,” Velayati said about Turkish and Saudi Arabian foreign minister’s statements in Munich Conference.

“I recommend to Saudi foreign minister it is better to think of his own country. With such unwise statements on foreign relations, it is Saudi Arabia which will suffer losses,” head of the Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council added.

“Iran understands Turkey’s situation, as it is still grappling with the consequences of the coup attempt, and has not achieved any of its objectives in Syria,” he said referring to Turkish foreign minister’s remarks.

“Iran is present in Iraq and Syria and is providing the two countries with advisory assistance at the official invitation of the two states’ incumbent governments,” Velayati added.

In the end, head of the Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council said: “Those who have entered these countries without any permission or invitation are invaders and must leave these states. They either leave the countries themselves or will be thrown out of them by the Iraqi and Syrian people.”
